  • Dr. Animesh Roy (Assistant Professor - Geography)

    Animesh Roy received his Doctoral Degree in Development Geography from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 2015. He is presently working as an Assistant Professor at the Giri Institute of Development Studies (GIDS), Lucknow. He also served the Institute of Development Kolkata (IDSK)⸺ a Centre of Excellence in Social Sciences under the Government of West Bengal)⸺ as an Associate Professor for a brief stint (22 September, 2023 to 02 January, 2024).

    His wide interests of research include: political economy of dispossession and development, neoliberal city-making, tribal exclusion, and Khasi matrilineage.

    Many of his sole-authored research papers and critical comments have been published in refereed journals such as International Journal of Community and Social Development (SAGE), Society and Culture in South Asia (SAGE), Journal of Land and Rural Studies (SAGE), Chinese Sociological Dialogue (SAGE), Social Change (SAGE), Journal of Rural Development, Social Change and Development, Economic and Political Weekly and so on, and a book review in highly ranked American Journal of Sociology. He has also contributed chapters to four books: ‘Media, Politics and Environment: Analyzing Experiences from Europe and Asia’(Springer, 2023),‘Encyclopaedia of New Populism and Responses in the 21st Century’(Springer, 2023),‘Agriculture in India: Crises and Prospects’ (Rawat Publications, 2021) and ‘Land and Livelihoods in Neoliberal India’ (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020).

    Dr. Roy has been nominated as the ‘Member at Large’ at the International Consortium for Social Development (ICSD): Asia-Pacific Branch for four years (2022-26).
