Dr. Chittaranjan Senapati
  • Dr. Chittaranjan Senapati (Associate Professor)

    Dr. Senapati obtained his M.A, M. Phil, and PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He was awarded the Jindal Scholarship & ICSSR fellowship during his M.Phil and PhD research. In 2007, he received training on Academic Capacity Building and Methodology Module from the International Development Department, University of Birmingham. Before joining the Giri Institute of Development Studies, he worked as an Assistant Professor at the Sardar Patel Institute of Economic and Social Research, Ahmedabad (Gujarat), and the Indian Institute of Dalit Studies, New Delhi. He also worked as a UGC-Post–Doctoral Fellow at JNU, New Delhi and taught in the School of Liberal Studies, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum (now Energy) University, Gandhinagar for a year.
    Dr. Senapati has presented more than 45 papers in International and National seminars and was invited as a resource person and keynote speaker on more than 19 international and national occasions. He has completed 19 international and national research projects and contributed significant working papers. Dr. Senapati also completed research projects collaborating with researchers from other countries in South Asia, South East & South West Pacific, Central Asia and India. In addition to India, he has undertaken several other research studies in Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, China, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Netherlands, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. He received a special academic award from the Republic of Kazakhstan for researching Kazakhstan's economy and polity.

    He has authored more than 22 research papers and a couple of books. One of his significant books, "Exclusion and Poverty in India and Central Asia: A Diversity and Development Perspective," was published by Penguin Random House Company, Bloomington, U.S.A.

    Dr. Senapati has travelled widely and visited various academic institutions of repute in Europe, South and Central Asian Countries, and Georgia. He is a member of many international and national professional bodies including the Economic Research Institute (ERI), Ministry of Economics and Budget Planning, Republics of Kazakhstan, Indian Defence and Strategic Analyses, New Delhi, International and Indian Political Science Association, Political Economy Association, India Sociological Society, and International Political Science Association.

    His core areas of research include Ethnicity, Human Security, Human Rights, Trade and Development; Public Policy, Global Development Issues; global issues in South and Central Asia, and Social Science Methods.
