  • Dr. Manjur Ali (Assistant Professor - Political Science)

    Dr Manjur Alihas done a PhD on “Liberalization and Its Impact on Handloom Industry in India: A Case Study of Muslim Weavers of Banaras”, from Centre for Political Studies (CPS), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He has also done his M.Phil. “Understanding of Democratic Assertion of ‘Pasmanda’ Muslims: A Case Study of Bihar”, from CPS, JNU, New Delhi. Before joining GIDS, he was posted as Research Officer in Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability (CBGA), New Delhi, since August 2011. In CBGA, he has led several projects. Some of the major projects were: a) Tracking Policy and Budgetary Commitments for Drinking Water and Sanitation: A Study of Select States; b) Public Policies And Investments For The Welfare Of Children In Urban Poverty In India; c) Tracking Fund Utilization in National Rural Drinking Water Programme and Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan: A Study on Sehore District of Madhya Pradesh. He has also Co-authored, a Working Paper on “Social Security Provisioning in Bihar: A Case for Universal Old Age Pension”.

    He has a brief stint as Guest Faculty in Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution (NMCPCR) in Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He had worked for Indian Statistical Institute (Delhi) as a Research Assistant under a UGC project entitled “Political Opportunism & Economic Performance in Major Indian States 1967-2007”.

    He has published a book entitled “Textile under Neoliberalism in India”. He has several research papers in a national and international journal. The publication also includes several chapters in books, commentary and reviews, under his credit. He has participated and presented research papers in national and international seminars in India. His research interest areas are Political Theory, Indian Politics, Social Justice, Water and Sanitation and Budget and Governance Study in India.
